Around the Globe
Multicultural Dance Organization

W&L's Around the Globe Multicultural Dance Organization (ATG) is an organization that creates space for community members to share and practice various ethnic traditions and cultural arts. When the organization was formed in 2022, I helped build a brand identity, design merchandise and prepare marketing materials. I managed the digital and print marketing, event photography, and the social media accounts of the organization until November 2023.

ATG needed a logo for their website, social media, and merchandise.
They wanted an image that represented their mission statement and programs, which celebrate ethnic dances and expand accessibility to cultural arts education. Their members are students from 20+ different countries who come together regularly to learn about each others' cultural traditions, foods, music, dances, and practices.
To reflect that spirit of curiosity, communal play, and celebration of uniqueness, I used the iconography of a group of people of different shapes and sizes holding hands and dancing around the globe (taking the name of the organization quite literally).

Color Scheme

The ATG brand is colorful, fun and celebratory. I picked a shade of burgundy, a bright gold, and a gentle blue, to bring in bold colors which are used in the textiles of many cultures. I included black, white and a deep blue to provide balance.
MERCHANDISE
Stickers
From the beginning of this project, we knew that stickers would be a main way that we bring character and a personal touch to ATG's merchandise and branding. Each sticker is designed after one of ATG's own performers, wearing their ethnic attire and performing their cultural dance.

The goal for this poster design was to center ATG's dancers and artists - students in the community who have performed for ATG in the first year of its' organizing efforts - and display the vibrancy and pride that the organization expresses for the cultural arts.
For the background of the illustration, I picked a beloved location on campus which is recognizable by anyone who has spent time at the university: W&L's iconic Colonnade front lawn. In the foreground are ATG's dancers in their ethnic attire, performing their cultural dances. I used photos and videos from the original dance performances throughout the year to draw each dancers, focusing on the details within each of their clothing items and choosing poses that are representative of each dance form. Linking the dancers together is a river of flowers, symbolizing the coming of spring, the rebirth and flourishing of life, and the celebration of the beauty of artistic expression.
In addition to the large poster, I created a layout for table tents which were placed around all dining facilities in the University. The event was a huge success, bringing around 300 students, faculty, staff and community members together for an evening of multicultural dance.
